From a Counter Strike Clan to a Group Identity

Summary

ZOMG Clan is an old moniker my friends and I used during our teenage years playing Counter Strike. It eventually evolved into the brand and identity of the friend group. Throughout the years we’ve attempted several different ventures under the ZOMG Clan brand, from Videogame Journalism/Reviews to plans to run a LAN café to a Game Dev Studio.

Logo Design Timeline

Over the years the ZOMG Clan has had several facelifts. The original logo I had drafted in 2008 was made as a 32×32 icon. Later I revisited the logo and recreated it in vector format on Flash. A year later, I was becoming more familiar with Illustrator so I redrafted it for the then expected YouTube channel launch. In December of 2012 there was another push to start the review blog, I revisited the logo once more to do touchups. Half way through the design process I noticed a trend of flat UI, a year before it hit the mainstream with iOS7. Taking inspiration from Internet Explorer’s 10 transition into metro, I flattened the ZOMG Clan logo into a 2-color icon. This icon only needed a little touchup in 2018.

2009 YouTube Channel Intro Video

When the 2009 version logo was finalized, I also poured some time into creating a YouTube intro video. Unfortunately, it went underutilized due to having conversion issues from .swf to .avi formats.

2018 Website

The domain name was expiring so I commandeered it from my friend and created a static html page hosted by github.

Although many of our ideas never came to fruition, it was important to at least maintain it the ZOMG Clan brand and flex my web skills while I’m at it.
